It's deep Spring here. Vivid greens, trees filling with new leaves...though the maples are still holding out on us. It'll be warm and soggy for the next week, the weatherbees say, good timing for the tomato plants to go out. Time to sow. And sow it goes.

The Beest has gotten herself stuck somewhere. I know that yowl. She probably jumped down behind the boxes in the closet again. Must go rescue her.

totally depressing...Pete Seeger 93.
Even with the changes wrought by global warming, it's too early to put out the tomatoes. The rule around here was not to plant until Memorial Day. I planted a few tomatoes in early May back in the late 1990's, only to have a frost around May 28th. I don't know why I did it, but I dug up the root balls and moved them to a corner of the garden. They not only grew again, they cuaght up with the other tomatoes and were the best producer I had that season.
Stevil- they aren't going in the ground, though. They'll be potted and can be brought in if the temp dips again. They've gotten too big to keep indoors already!
It's unbelievable how old some of my favorite musicians are getting. Kinda like the people my hubby and I saw at the only high school reunion we attended. "They" really got old!
Adam Yauch (MC A of The Beastie Boys) died this morning. Another part of my youth gone. Sucks getting older....
Susan- Funny how everyone keeps getting older and older and "we" stay the same!
Niecely- Jeez, he was young!
One of our gardening gurus says that you should not plant tomatoes in the ground until you can sit on it - naked. We are prone to late frosts here but I have never adopted her method of testing the soil.
EC- I won't be sitting on the ground nekkid anytime soon! With all that went into the soil here with last year's flood, I'm not too quick to put anything edible in the ground here, either. Hence the potting, in mail-ordered organic soil.
