Stevil's Birthday and The Comforting Stink

Today was Stevil's birthday. We watched some tv, ate dinner and bitched about everything. He's retiring soon and after all these years we'll both be stay-at-homes. It's a big change, not an easy one for some, but I genuinely think he'll be happy to be retired. We'll get to hang out more, which is cool, because there have been months go by when we didn't get to hang out. Life is short. You should get to spend it with buds. And we'll get to see the usual gang on the 16th for his party, too. The social season begins. : )

You know when Summer or Winter is over here by the "Ach, skunk!" yells in the air. Sometimes the sound hits before the stink, and you have a second to close the windows. After all these years of smelling it, it doesn't bother me. It's the sure sign the seasons are changing and much more dependable than anything a human says.

So when my house filled with the reek tonight and the cat ran away to the bedroom with a disgusted look on her face, I relaxed. Things are going along as they should. The skunk sprays, Fall will come, the holidays will follow, and a Winter, as always. And sometime in March or April, the yells and stink will fill the air and it'll start all over again. Nice.

Delightful celebration of autumn smells! Happening here too, little skunks crossing the yard at night. I try not to alarm them. Another charming seasonal effect is I post the wrong clips on my blog. Hope your friend's mind stays more organized in retirement than mine has!

Love your skunk post! Never thought about when I smell skunk aromas, but now I will pay more attention. Retirement has given me the time and I don't have that many important things to do. Maybe I will start a spreadsheet and do a graph on skunk stink.

I had no idea that skunks ushered in the change of seasons. What a wonderful thing. I see dapper gentlemen in black and white bowing gracefully and letting fly. Which is an image that has produced a fat smile. Thank you.

Happy Birthday to Stevil.

Not happy birthday to Mr Skunk. I've never actually smelled the beast, but we used to have a chemical in the lab called Butyl Mercaptan, whcih was a close anologue. Not nice.

Just wondered, being in the USA and all, why don't you just shoot the skunk?

Old stinky rambled past our bedroom windows just the other night....I will never be accepting of that burning acrid stench.

Not a fan of Eau de Skunk - the aroma wafted thru the air hereabouts at the end of last week. (Sigh).

Stevil had a wonderful visit with Austanspace, who cooked him an excellent Birthday dinner. (Yay! - and Thank You!)

As my great grandfather used to say, "I've had an elegant sufficiency..."

Geo.- seems we're all losing it by degrees. One day you can't remember where you left the list, the next you don't remember what you were looking for. If only I could forget that the fate of all mankind is in the hands of fools.

Arleen- I'm sure you could find a grant to do it! A Stink Study.

EC- they are kinda dapper, the little stinkers. And now you've made me smile. :D
