Every other freakin day this entire humid miserable hot Summer the weather people have been throwing high alerts at us for Severe Thunderstorms With Damaging Winds and Large Hail that could do Property Damage. High Winds that could Knock Down Tree limbs causing Power Failure. And several times they've broadcasted Tornado Watch! Tornado Watch! because they say the way the warm and cool hit each other could by God kill us all! Watch your skies! Be afraid! Take shelter! Grab the children and head for the root cellar! We're gonna die!
And Every Single Time we've had nothing. A couple of flashes, some rumbles from over the hills and far away, maybe a weak brief shower. This whole season we've had rain three times. Not even enough to keep the tomato plants alive if I didn't water them. But the air has plenty of water. Enough humidity to make every non-cloth surface schloopy. Today I had to towel down the kitchen walls after boiling water for my coffee.
Today we've had the full treatment, including Tornado Watch! and again, it's dank, sauna-like and disgusting. We're on the "Expect Thunderstorms" stage now, where every two hours they say we'll Really Get It in another two hours. This is the pattern of this Summer. It was also the pattern of the Spring.
Well, that's just great. We've heard all these false alarms for so long now that I'm ready to ignore it entirely. If there's ever a real weather issue coming nobody will believe it. And then it'll be drama's fault because they inured us with BS for months and months. Pffft.

We have been going through the same thing - doom is around the corner. It has not hit us up till now, but others have gotten the full brunt of these summer storms. Tonight it is all around us, and it is not pleasant. The newscasters give the worst case scenario, but I guess they feel it is better to be prepared then be surprised by a possible dangerous weather situation. Meanwhile, my anxiety level is raised and I will be a wreck till the storm is over.
Same thing here...TAKE COVER TAKE COVER....two handfuls of water and one big bang and we're outa here. Of course, (and I hope I don't jinx myself here) Guelph seems to be in a loop that doesn't often get hit with these things. All around us gets it and we are passed over. Thank goodness!!! It is a bit like the boy who cried wolf though isn't it? After a while we do start to disregard these warnngs.
Arleen- That's what really gets me- they pump up everybody's anxiety again and again. Hope you're okay.
Lawless- Today it's raining. Regular old rain. No biblical events, no twisters that kill, just rain. Could they just cut the theatrics and tell us the freakin weather? Why must everything be Fox News panic?
Last night I looked at the clouds and said, looks like rain, and B said it didn't look like rain on the radar that afternoon, and I said, well those look like grey rain clouds to me. Then it starts raining five minutes later. ;)
LOVE the word "schloopy". We get a lot of weather warnings here, too, especially for tornadoes. But since we've also HAD a lot of tornadoes in our area, I still pay attention when the alerts come, and thank my lucky stars when the storms fizzle out.
