Well.

The news this morning was horrifying. A crazed man went into a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado and shot some 40-50 people, killing 12.

It's taken a few hours for this to sink in. Instantly I was angry. Very angry. Even with the people who'd brought small children to a midnight show. Now seven hours after hearing about it, I'm sickened and sad. This kind of seemingly random killing spree is becoming a shockingly regular occurrence. WTF is going on? Why? How could anyone do such evil? I don't understand. I can't understand.

You and me both. I know some mental illnesses, left untreated, can lead to horrible acts but I don't pretend to understand.

I wonder if the stress and worry of loss of jobs, lowered incomes, poor health care, general unkindness abounding doesn't make our minds sick and some of us just can't handle it and we snap. Some of us aren't feeding our bodies the right things and some of us aren't feeding our minds the right things either...I don't know Laura....it's sad and painful and worrying. It makes one afraid to go anywhere and do anything for fear one of these poor demented sick souls doesn't show up and start shooting or knifing or bombing or whatever comes into their minds. One person can only do so much...be kind, be loving, share, pray and hope for the best.

Guns are a scary thing. Society is just too crazy to own them. Just... awful. What could possibly be the reason for that.

This is the land of guns.

Sane minds can never understand acts bred by insanity. These random acts of violence make me wonder exactly where one is "safe" anymore.

Geo- I guess that's a big part of what happened. He snapped and nobody was close enough to see it coming.

Lawless- What you just said about feeding our minds and bodies the right things...that's wisdom right there.

Boo- There are nuts among us, and the more people on Earth, the more nuts, too. This guy would've never been suspect. All he has is a speeding ticket on his record. Even if we screened for mental illness he wouldn't have caused a blip on the radar. It's all so scary.

Arleen- Yes, it is.

Susan- Ain't that the truth. I do think safety is an illusion, but in relative terms... there are places you expect danger and places you don't. I guess that's an illusion too.
