Today in Our Police State

This just in, from Alternet. I had to read it over twice because I couldn't quite believe what I was reading. What the hell is going on in New York City?

Wow..so basically the US is a police state and freedom of speech doesn't exist?

Basically. Ever since "The Patriot Act", the police can do whatever they want to you, Constitution be damned. Thank you, King Bush 2.

That's just plain scary.

What's next?

3 months in solitary confinement for dropping a candy wrapper?

3 years for saying that maybe The Prez could be doing things better?

Welcome to StateAmerica

TSB- It's a witch hunt for anyone who dares speak up. I and several of my friends have expected persecution for a while now. So far we aren't important enough to bother. I'll continue being a small hemorrhoid in the arse that this country's become. At least until one of those hummingbird cameras catch me missing the wastepaper bin under my desk. Then they'll take me away.

What the ...? And, sadly, some of our rights in this country have also been removed in slavish imitation of yours. Aaargh.

Susan- They certainly are.

You can generally tell a deteriorating administration by its unhealthy interest in people. We've all had bosses like that. Irritating but fixable, I think.

Geo- I hope it's fixable. Rudy set NYC up well for Bloomie to make it this way. I saw it coming with the war on the poor in the early 90s. But these home invasions (this isn't the first) worry me.
