Sugarbush Benefit for VT Foodbanks

Calling all skiers!
From an email Stevil sent me:

On this Sunday, March 18th, the Vermont Foodbank will be the beneficiary of Sugarbush Resort’s Be Better Days. When you purchase an adult All Mountain lift ticket through the link on the Vermont Foodbank’s homepage (http://www.vtfoodbank.org/), you will receive a discounted $60 lift ticket and the Vermont Foodbank will receive a $30 donation. Each ticket sold translates into 180 meals for Vermonters in need of food assistance.

This year has been particularly difficult for Vermonters, and the Vermont Foodbank has seen serious increases in demand for charitable food. “During the past year, Vermonters have suffered great losses due to a number of factors—natural disasters, a weak economy, layoffs and high unemployment,” said John Sayles, Vermont Foodbank CEO. “Demand for emergency food remains high, with thousands of families, children and seniors struggling with hunger. Support from businesses like Sugarbush has never been more important. We are so grateful for their continued partnership in the fight against hunger.”

There is a 48-hour booking window, so make sure to purchase your ticket by Friday, March 16th. Please consider joining Sugarbush in supporting our local community. We hope to see you on the hill!

When mentioning the difficulties of the year for Vermonters, they never seem to note the huge increase in the cost of food. Some items have gone up 25cents, some as much as $2.00 per pund. Overnight. And then a week or two later, they go up again. This is insanity. I can not fathom how a young couple with a child or two can make it in this day and age.

The increase in the 'working poor' seems to be world wide. And if people in employment are in difficulties ...

Stevil- I can't believe how much food has gone up. How are city people, who can't even grow anything, making do?

I volunteer at a food bank, and although the outpouring of donations has been very good, the need continues to be constant. No matter where you live, the battle of fighting hunger goes on.

Sorry, can't realistically help. 9120 miles is a bit far.

We have noticed a huge demand for help in the NZ foodbanks, and we contribute every time we go shopping.
Not just the basic foods, but things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, washing powder.
We need to help each other, especially when times are bad.

Arleen- You're wonderful! Thank you for helping people, even if nobody else thanks you. What you're doing is more important than most anything else these days. It's true, there's never too much and usually just enough. Long as we can keep just enough going, it'll be okay.

TSB- Good point. It's not just food that people need. In fact, you've inspired me to post a list of necessaries for food banks. People don't think about those other little necessities most of us take for granted. Thanks!

TSB- Lovely reminder there- we all do better when we all do better!
