This isn't funny anymore. They really mean it.
Of course, shaming the poor isn't new, it's part of our culture. But the GOP hasn't stopped this campaign against social programs since the 80s and is ramping it up by passing laws in individual states, state by state. Their forerunning candidates have all legislated and spoken toward eliminating "social safety nets" including Social Security.

Romney "isn't concerned about the very poor."

This is a good summation of how the Repos became the party of and for the rich:

Poor Republicans say their party doesn't help the poor enough (why are they still voting for them then?)

The Daily Show did a fabulous job on the FL law to force Welfare recipients to take drug tests- but the politicians won't pee in a cup:

Take from the "overly happy" and give to the "underly happy"? What a hoot. Then you've got a whole lot of reasonably unhappy people. I don't know what the answer is but I don't think the politicians do either.
I'm with you there. But whatever they're doing is what we should be watching. They're worse than 2 year olds.
Romney pulled a classic with that line. 'Bout sums up the attitude!
Too bad some of us poor folks with good minds don't have the money to run against the rich folks with no hearts.
Carrie- He's another Fortunate Son, just like Dumbya.
Amen, Susan. Sharp observation.
"The Tin Woodman knew very well he had no heart, and therefore he took great care never to be cruel or unkind to anything."- L. Frank Baum
Would that these people had the Tinman's wisdom.
What is happening in PA concerning food stamps is beyond inhuman. People's net worth (including a car) cannot be more than $2,000 in order to ask help for the most basic necessities in life.
I volunteer at a community center whose main purpose is to provide food for the poor. It is heartbreaking to see the circumstances that these people find themselves in. Many were once middle-class who, because of a job loss or an illness, now have to depend on others to feed their families. How do these politicians who put through this legislation sleep at night. They all speak about Christian values, but don't practice them.
Arleen- I hesitate to even call them human, because there's so little humanity in them.
