Cops Drop Hacking Source Demand

The little one's crying her eyes out, so I won't go into it. But the cops are dropping their demands that the Guardian reveal their sources in the phone hacking scandal:

Cops attacking the press is a very bad idea - more for the Cops perspective than anything. The shit that journalists could pin on them would leave the cops with no one left on active duty lol - they'd all be suspended.

I'm glad someone has seen sense and binned this idea.

This is all very strange. I have a suspicion that the whole thing was planned with the intention of stopping the police whistleblowers. They probably knew all along that it would never reach a court of law. I hope the policeman who was the source of the information is back at work soon, all charges dropped (and the Guardian campaign to ensure this!)

Looks like cops attacking the press being a bad idea was apparent to them after they thought about it:

Obviously, the last thing we want to do is to get into a big fight with the media. We do not want to interfere with journalists. In hindsight, the view is that certain things that should have been done were not done, and that is regrettable." From today's Guardian...
