At what point did those cops not get the strange feeling that arresting those nice folks for feeding the hungry was somewhat...er...wrong?

I think I'm allowed to give blood now that the whole "mad cow" scare is over. But gulp... do they still give you a cookie?

Did they think they were selling the food? What the!

Lawless- apparently that bit of humanity has been extracted from them.

Carrie- oh definitely check. Strange fact, all the really old folks who are in pretty good shape that I know have been giving blood for years. There may be something to it!

The pool of folks who can give blood is diminishing rapidly in the US, mostly due to the prevalence of tattoos and piercings, but also because most habitual donors are also elders. During WW2 the importance of donating was well ingrained on the then-youngish able-bodied donors, and they are now largely beyond the age when it's still safe for them to donate. The US hasn't done a good job telling the young how important donating is.

As for iron deficiency, that's a natural side effect, but can be assuaged by eating iron-rich foods during the days following donation. No problem!

Just, don't donate all of you blood!
